Hi All,

I am modelling a free surface flow in a channel. In cfd post I would like to plot the height average of the velocity into a single plane.

So the result would be a single plane perpendicular to the bottom of the channel that shows at each location the average velocity over the water column

Anyone know how to do this?

Thanks

Please define "Height average velocity"

Also show an image with which planes you wish to show.

So I am modelling a free surface flow out of a channel into a reservoir. Water depth in this case is 6 meter. xy plane is horizontal. z is in vertical direction, i.e. from bottom of channel upwards

On the first image you can see the velocity field in the channel and the reservoir. I plotted 3 planes at different heights from the bottom

On the second image you can see the VOF, which is a sideview (y direction) of the first image

What I would like to calculate is the average velocity over the water column at every x,y postion.

In other words. At every x,y position in the channel and reservoir you would be able to make a vertical (z direction) line plot showing the velocity profile from the bottom to the surface. I would like to have the average of this profile and then at every x,y position shown in a single plane

I cannot see how to do this in CFD-Post. I would recommend trying tecplot, ensight or fieldview as they are more powerful post-processors which should be able to do things like what you are requesting.

thanks, I got this working in Ensight, though I find the software a bit of a struggle. I will try tecplot as well.
