Hi everybody! I'm tryng to simulate the tires of a car, in fact i'm simulatng a complete car! But now i'm having problems with the tires because they're close of the ground, about 1 cm. So the mesh is poor between the ground and tires. Can any one help me out telling me how to redifine the mesh in this area. thank you all!

Hi Marco,
There has been many papers published on car/tyre/road interaction. The best place to find out how to mesh this interaction is to be found in the research papers. Sounds like a visit to the library is in order. Glenn |

I think you might be trying to bite off more than you can chew, trying to model a whole car with tyre's etc. You'll have a problem getting a fine enough grid resolution in the whole domain in order to get any sensible results. You might be better off trying to break the model down and and just look at the road tyre flow problem. A paper which describes this sort of modelling problem is: "Formula 1 Car Wheel Aerodynamics", W.P.Kellar, S.R.G. Pearse and A.M. Savill, Sports Engineering (1999) 2, pp203-212, Blackwell Science Ltd. The paper is quite basic but worth a read, very little technical data is presented. James |

Dear James,
Thank you a lot for this help, I've found the paper. Do you know about other papers about tyres or car simulations? Marco |

Hi
I have seen a few papers over the years, but can't really remember specific publications where i have seen them. This papers presented on this link might be of some use to you. http://www.advantage-cfd.co.uk/public.htm James |
