volumetric heat source

Hi everbody!

I have to model a simple fire, that in other cfd code was set as a volumetric heat source. Does CFX 5.6 have this feature?(i was looking in help and i coudn't find something about this). Thank a lot, ioana

Hi ioana,

Yes, CFX5 has volumetric heat sources.

Volumetric Heat Soruce

Is this volumetric heat source linearly distributed in the fluid domain?
Or this heat source term is each cell based, the value depending on the cell velocity or flow rate?
Thanks!

There are not many people still around after 10 years but I am still here. A bit older and crustier but still here.

You can define a volumetric heat source as constant or as a function of just about anything. So it can be set per control volume if you want to.

Hi Glenn,

Ok, is the source value uniformly distributed to each cell in the control volume?

Thanks,

Allan

The whole point of a control volume is that a single value of the variable is representative of the entire control volume. This applies to the source term as well.

But note there is an exception to this - the integration points in CFX means that fluxes are calculated more accurately than if based on simple control volumes with single values. But this is just being pedantic.
