Does anyone know what the letters C, F and X are short for? Computational Fluid eXperts?

I think CFX is just a figment of the imagination of somebody in the marketing department.

CFX used to be called Flow3D you know. However, about 10 years ago, Flowscience Inc, who already marketed a CFD code called Flow3D and owned that trademark reminded AEA that the name was already taken... so the guys at AEA had to invent a new name for their CFD code. I have no clue why they chose CFX.

I think it is just a name of CFX£¬no other means.

It had nothing to do with Flow3D actually. It coincided with a planned name change anyways. It has no hidden meaning and the letters do not stand for anything in particular.

It was chosen by a flow solver developer, of all people, as a "stop gap" until someone thought of something better.

Guess it stuck. Go figure.
