refinement causes composite regions, how to solve?

Hi,

I'm relatively new with ICEM / CFX and had to encouter a problem which I couldn't solve with either manuals, tutorials or messages stated in the forums:

I've generated an 2D airfoil-mesh, with appropriate refinements around the boundary layer. I continued with a transformation from 2D to 3D and edited the output file for cfx5 (v 5.7). The mesh import in CFX-Pre worked pretty well but also so called "composite regions" (i.e. SOLID External A) were generated. They appear in all those areas which are "surfaces" of former done refinement. Assuming that the faces weren't connected right I was searching for a tool such as "arbitrary connect" or something like that, but couldn't find the appropriate function;

Furthermore the solver is only able to handle this composite regions as walls which I do not appreciate because they are right in the area of interest for my application....

I do not know whether the problem is an ICEM-made or is generated in CFX. Still I'm sure that it'll only be a trick to manage this, but didn't find it yet.

Hoping that anyone is familiar with this problem, I remain with thanks in advance for your help !!!

Harry !

Re: refinement causes composite regions, how to so

Hi Harry,

It sounds like you have left hanging nodes. You can either connect the hanging nodes in ICEM CFD or specify an interface between the faces on either side.

Yes it sounds like this... For connection of hanging nodes someone can use uncouple mesh in ICEM... but not in new interface of 5.0 (if someone knows if it possible please supply me with information).
