FSI using CFX5.7 and ANSYS9.0

Have you any body a samle problem about Fluid-Structure Interaction? There is sample problme in CFX Code but it is really hard to follow and so long. Really simple 3D..Like Cantilever Beam, Wind speed, 15 mph from any direction (i.e. East). Want to check max deflection at tip, and stress at bottom. If possible, check mode shape.
Just let me know the steps to model this. ANSYS structure model should be created first and then import this mesh from CFX? I do not know. Thank you. |

How familiar with ANSYS and CFX are you? There are examples available, but they may require some knowledge of APDL. Are you familiar with APDL? Cheers, Derrek |

Thanks Derrek for your reply I am familiar with ANSYS, APDL but not CFX. That's why I want to look at any kind of examples realting to the wind vibration (3D-but very simple then I cam apply) I have toldt that I can model FSI as TWO-WAY not automatically but manually. I just want to try to model FSI. Would you tell me how and where I can find the very simple 3D FSI model (about wind induced vibration)?

Brian,
Start with a one-way FSI analysis. i.e. Make your CFD grid of the fluid domain surrounding the beam. Run the calculation in CFX (assuming you have a good answer), then write out the forces from the CFX solution to either a CDB file from the flow solver manager or a load file from CFX Post. CDB file has MF commands that require a multifield license. Load file has SFE command that do not. To use the CFX Post route you must export your surface boundary grid from ANSYS to a CDB file which is then read into CFX Post. The CFD solution is interpolated onto that grid. Load the forces into ANSYS and apply as a boundary condition to get the displacments on the cantilever. Two way analysis is far more involved than that and requires MpCCI. If two way is what you want I suggest you contact your support rep and get a copy of 5.8 beta and ANSYS 10.0 preview 2 when they come out (very soon). You will waste less time using this route.
