hydraulic jump
Hi, I'm trying to model a hydraulic jump in CFX5.7 caused by an abrupt drop in the bed of a open channel. The fluids I am using are air and water. As the Hydraulic Jump equation relates the upstream Froude number and depth to the dowmstream depth, how can I specify the downstream volume fraction or pressure without over constraining the problem. The models I have made so far won't converge at all.
If anyone has any experience with modeling hydraulic jumps I would very much appricate there help. Thanks, Barry |
Re: hydraulic jump
hi sir how are you? i hope your help for my project gratuated> please if you can send to me any papers or data from your experement of hydraulic jump

hi
hi , i'm working on a same problem , i'm trying to calculate hydraulic jump made by a water jet instead of a drop , i think we can share some documents if u like

Hello dear
I just saw your problem and learned that you want to share documents. I have just started my MS and am working in the same field. It would be very nice of you if you could please help me. Feel free to contact me on mechovator@yahoo.com With best regards Mechovator |

hello
i,m trying to model a hydraulic jump with fluent software but i don,t know how to create mesh in gambit ( contain initial condition in walls and boundary conditions ) and how to run this mesh into fluent to create a convience model of hydraulic jump.

Try posting in the meshing and geometry forum, or the Fluent forum.

1- if you have a hydraulic jump then there should be subcritical flow and a control point at downstream, which gives you the water level, put an open boundary there with static pres., and set the pressure and volume fraction as of your expected water level. 2- to get it converged, initialise the system with uniform water level, normally a level same as the inlet. the system will drain the extra water and converge toward the jump but with less numerical hassle. |
see tutorial 7
and if you have problem to define hydraulic head in inlet or out let, select static pressure instead of normal velocity and put UpPress function [tutorial7] instead of value if you have no condition definition in outlet give 0 (zero) for value of relative pressure if you would still have problem and your problem is things that I said I can send my ccl file for the flow over an ogee spillway good luck |

Try the fluent forum. This is CFX.
