modeling the mixture of fresh and saline water

Hello

I have a little experience in CFX. but only with one domain. This time I want to know, if is possible modeling the mixture of fresh and saline water. The purpose of this study is to know, how long is enough so that the water of a pool communicated with the sea, has certain proportion of salt water and fresh? We want to know the salinity of the water in the time. Can you recommend me some lectures or tutorials? thanks a lot

Hi,

Yes, CFX can model this. If you want to model the mixing process and the density difference is not important you can do it with a passive scalar (additional variable).

I don't think you can make density a function of an additional vairable so if you want to include density variations you will need to model it with a multiphase model.

Re: modeling the mixture of fresh and saline water

You dont have to do this with multiphase.

If you want to inlcude ensity differences you can use a multi-componant flid.

Create a mixture of water and saline water (variable composition mixture). Set the mass fractions appropriately at the BCs and ICs.

Normally the diffusivity of saline in fresh water is given as the dynamics viscosity (4.3E-4, I think).

Re: modeling the mixture of fresh and saline water

thank you Glenn and Jon,

I have never heard about it, but I am going to begin to read it in help.

If you have a suggestion of a tutorial or even a book, it will be welcome.
