ICEM_CFD error code R6017?

Hi, I use ICEM_CFD5.1 sp1 for meshing and encounter a problem. While meshing , as the elements size grow up near to 14,000,000 elements, and then it pop up a messge(R6017,unexpected multithread lock error.....). I'm doing it in Windows2000 with 2GB DDRram. And it happened everytime when processing elements near to 14,000,000 or 15,000,000 tetra mesh size. Does any one has same experence as me?

Hi,

If you look at the task manager, you will find ICEM has attempted to gobble up over 2GB of ram for the meshing process and this is not possible on a 32 bit machine. Hence the mesher crashes. ICEM is very memory hungry while meshing and meshes of the size you indicate require some special attention on 32 bit machines.

Your main options are: 1) Get a 64 bit machine and try again; 2) Try a different meshing package (although most packages have a similar limit on the size mesh which can be created due to 32 bit limitations); 3) Break the mesh up into smaller sections and mesh each section seperately and join them together in CFX-Pre; 4) You can create a coarse initial mesh in ICEM and use automatic solver mesh refinement to generate finer meshes 5) Use a different meshing technique in ICEM to generate the mesh.

For option 5, a useful technique is to do a coarse initial mesh with tetra, and then use Edit mesh/Mesh refinement to create a finer mesh and then smooth it back into shape. This technique is far less memory intensive than tetra.

Regards, Glenn

Hi, Glenn Horrocks Thank you very much! I'll try the option 3 and 5 . Thanks.

please...
thanks before.

Wow, digging up a post from 7 years ago. That's archeology for you.

What is a "coarse initial mesh"? Isn't that obvious? You start with a coarse mesh initially which runs quick and easily, but use mesh refinement to refine the areas which need it.

thanx for ur reply
as i said early i am new to this circle.
Where i can find coarse mesh in cfd.

again thanx
