# Mass flow absorption

 June 22, 2005, 21:50 Mass flow absorption #1 Roberto Guest   Posts: n/a Dear all, I would like to understand the meaning of "mass flow absorption". I am working in a industrial gas turbine compressor stage, and I am looking for the particle tracking of the water inside the compressor. I would like to find out the particle impacting area along the compressor blade. Could the wall interaction be useful for ths analysis? Thanks for your help Roberto

Particle tracking is for tracking particles (obviously), not water. If the fluid in your compressor is just water then you have no need for particle tracking. The forces on the blades are calculated from the pressure and viscous effects. Alternately, are you modelling flow with particles to determine how many particles impact the blades? Glenn Horrocks

 June 24, 2005, 09:53 Re: Mass flow absorption #3 Roberto Guest   Posts: n/a Dear Glen, my study concerns with the simulation of the water particle tracking, when water is injected in an industrial gas turbine in order to wash the blades. The main flow is air, and then I set injection of water. In quantifying the amount of water needed to wash the dust off from the blade, I am going to find out from the simulation the areas where particles impact with the the blades. After a look to the tutorials, and I think particle tracking is the best solution matching my requirements. I have already found out the trajectories of the water inside the compressor and now I need to investigate where the particles impact against the blade. I don't do much particle modelling, but doesn't CFX-Post show you the impact density of the droplets? That is the number of impacts per unit area - this sounds like what you want. Glenn Horrocks

The only think related with this topic could be the "Water Volume fraction", but actually I am not sure.. I did it but the results are not realistic. I read the manual and the are some options called "wall interaction" but you can get into only using "Particle User Routine" (Fortran Routine). Do you think this is resonable?
