euler-euler multiphase(gas-liquid)

Just read a thesis talking about that, in Fluent, it was suggested that euler-euler approach should only be used when gas volume fraction is greater than 10%.

Is this a common rule for all codes? Are there similar restrictions in CFX?

Thanks!

Re: euler-euler multiphase(gas-liquid)

Hi,

Well there is no fixed guidelines for modelling when it comes to Multiphase flow. As a general thumb rule Largrangian modelling is restricted to cases where the solid vf < 10%. This is because the basic assumption is that the dispersed particles are point masses and do not interact with each other. Also the particles are assumed not to occupy any volume in the domain. This assumption will not be suitable when particle-particle interations are important (lik Fluidized beds). HOwever this does not prevent people from using lagrangian approach even for fluidized beds (they incorporate particle interaction and coalasence terms..)

The issue with gas liquid flow would be that you would need to track a large number of gas bubbles.

I am not sure any one would further elaborate on your question which is very generic. If you do a background reading and then come up with specific query people would surely help you. Hope my hints would be helpful.

Regards, Ananth
