Combustion: pls Bak_Flow read

Hi Bak_Flow.

Why you stated that CFX is a decade behind in combustion?

I'm dealing with combustion and found some aspects that can be developed a little more in CFX but other codes fail where CFX gives good response (almost in my cases).

I think its strengh is in the coupled solver really strong and robust.

Maybe you're talking about the reduced mechanism of reactions? In that case which other software can handle hundreds of reactions (except 1D code like Chemkin)?

Openfoam cannot deal with conjugate heat transfer nor has a radiation model...

Thank you for your attention.

Hi,

Let me know if you need some expert consulting in this area...but it is not cheap ($$$$)?

Well Bak_Flow...

I think your answer is in the wrong place. Let me suggest you and avertising space on some magazine...

I read some of your previous post about combustion and it seems you're a Fluent promoter, is that right?...after many years on Fluent(with no succesful result at all) we found that CFX can give some qualitative results...

I simply asked you what software you think is more suitable for predicting the main features of combustion problems (laminar, radiation effects, conjugate heat tranfer)...

Regards,

Frank.

Hi Frank,

now YOU asked me to reply (infact posting a message to me in the title)....come now...that sounds like someone who really needs help and MIGHT want to pay....no?

I guess not....well here is what you get for free ;-)

"from previous posts....looks like you are a Fluent promoter".........Reply: Labels are for food!

Actually, I did not even mention Fluent in my post to Stone???

No I do not promote any code in general...just call it as I see it.....

CFX has some nice stuff: the pressure based coupled solver is robust and reliable for steady problems wih non/weakly varying fluid properties, nice features for turbo set-up, solution and post-processing.

Fluent has many more physical models, particularly for combustion, radiation, sprays, etc so do lots of other codes like Star, CFD-Ace, etc

Hi Bak_Flow,

just for the sake of clarity...

I personally think (anyone please correct me if I'm wrong...) that if I mentioned your name in the post message is because I wanted to talk with you 'cause you seemed to me really expert in combustion, but this DOES NOT mean at all I might want to pay you. I found this procedure (posting a name in a post) is quite common in this forum.

I don't really need help! :)

The one and only question was: "What software in your opinion is more suitable for predicting combustion main features?"

There was no request for advices or suggestion on settings and other things...

I'm dealing with laminar, lean mixture, premixed flames including radiation and conjugate heat transfer.

In my experience CFX is the only code that lead me to significant results in this problems.

Fluent coupled solver doesn't work properly. OpenFoam has not radiation model. Kiva has not conjugate heat transfer.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Regards,

Frank.
