What are you trying to do? You cant make a def file for the solver by using this routine. It only creates a mesh in the def or gtm format, you still have to set up the physics in Pre.

robin, read from manual that it is possibiile shucks.

reason is me mesh has many subdomains and takes a long time to read into CFXPre, so tot i create the .def file using command line instead.

i tot by having a .ccl and .msh from icem i can get a .def that can be solved by cfx5solve?

It would depend on you knowing the exact region names that the converter created. Once you convert your ICEM CFD mesh to a gtm, however, it should open relatively quickly in Pre.

I suggest going through the setup in Pre at least once. Once you have the model set up, you can reload new meshes into Pre quite easily by clicking the mesh reload button. If you write a session file recording the mesh reload and def write, you could simply run this in batch to go from mesh to solver without opening the GUI.

Pre has gotten a lot faster with each release. What release are you using?

robin thanks for the reply...im using it this way cause i have problem importing my domain with 100sub-domains. each sub-domain may or may not consist of neighbouring hexahedrals.

i'm using CFX5.7.1

Install 10.0. It's been available for nearly a year now and you will find that Pre handles this significantly better. More improvements are coming for 11.0 as well.

ROBIN will try it..ithink istopped using pre because of the long time it takes to import my kind of mesh. will ask my system administrator its avaliabilityl. txs

Add the "-line" or "-batch" flag to Pre. The line input mode is meant for scripting, not command line usage. You will need to know the CCL and commands exactly to make it work.

Just use the GUI man! I suggest converting your mesh to a GTM file at the command line using cfx5gtmconv then loading that GTM file into Pre.

robin...sorry i think i mistaken GUI....=( wat i wanted to ask was how do we disable the graphics part mean...i do not really need to show my mesh. This is taking up a lot of memory.

also, how do i disable autosave? Preference in CFXPRE did not allow anyof this to be disabled

The viewer cannot be disabled, but it shouldn't require much memory anyhow. Once a mesh is loaded you can hide it by unchecking the visibility box beside it. Autosave can be set in the preferences, just go to Edit>Options... to set the period or disable it.
