Problems modeling CONTACT SURFACES with CFX Mesh

Hi everyone in the forum!

I wonder whether anyone could help me with my problem. I'm trying to simulate a four time Internal Combustion Engine, and my main problem comes up when defining the regions in CFX Mesh.

The geometry file from Design Modeler has both valves' surfaces in contact with each manifold's surfaces. Besides, I suppose that if I sort it out, there will be some trouble whem making the valves open and close in CFX simulation (negative volumes, or problems with domains...)

I hope that someone in the forum has dealt with a problem like this. Maybe the way I'm modeling the ICE is not the right one (starting the simulation with both valves closed...).

I would be very grateful to you if you could help me.

Thank you all!

You cant pinch off bits of the domain in CFX (in version 10 at least) i.e. you cant have fully closing valves.

Very annoying ... I really need a pinch off capability myself.

You can fudge things by interpolating result sets from one grid topology to another but its very messy and cumbersome to do.

Hi,

You will need to think carefully about how to model valve motion in CFX. As discussed in my posting on your other thread it is possible.
