hi folks, does anyone know a rule of thumb for the extrusion layer thickness in ICEM. I have 2D Domain 1.5 m long and 0.35m breadth. i want to use a layer thickness of 0.01m. is this ok? oh, some info to my cells: first cell in spanwise direction is 1 micromemter and in the x direction, the leading edge region has a cell size of 10 micrometer. it seems like the third dimension required by ansys cfd does have an effect on convergence. thanks in advance

Rule of thumb is to keep the thickness the same order as your smallest cell. I have violated this many times with no ill effects though ...

thanks joe, seems like i always violate the rule of thumb. i did have problems once trying to keep the thickness as small as my smallest cell (1 micrometer) and i had convergence problems. may i was at the very far end. thanks though. ben.
