IcemCFD: Controlling size of hexes in Hexa-Core?

From my use of the hexa-core meshing option, the central hexes appear to be sized based on some average of the surface meshes the hexa-core algorithm builds from. Generally, the hexa-core mesher is very "greedy" trying to convert as much of the tet mesh into a hex core as possible.

This tends to leave only a few layers of tets between the hex core and the surface mesh, resulting in very low tet mesh quality. I would like to force the core hexes to be larger such that more tet layers are left between the hexes and the surface mesh, which wwould offer the smoothing algorithms more scope to improve the mesh quality.

However I havnt found any method of forcing the central hexes to be any larger. Does anyone know how to do this?

Changing the global mesh size parameter has no effect unless it is set such that it makes the core hexes smaller, which is the axact opposite of what i'm trying to achieve! :)

TIA

I do remember there was some setting of hexa-core mesh size in the tab where you set the prism-mesh parameters for different parts. there was also the body to which you could assign the hexa-core size.

hope I'm right and it helps.

The mesh by parts dialog only lets you set a maximum size not a minimum size.

The size specified in the Mesh Parameters by Parts is the size for all of the hexa-core elements. It's a one-size deal.

So have you been able to change the hexa core hex size *without* changing the surface mesh sizes? i.e. by changing some volumetric mesh size parameter? If so, which one? My experiance has been that any volumetric parameters set larger than what the algorithm deems is the average of the surface mesh sizes is simply ignored?
