2D setup and 2D profile data file in CFX10

Hi! I am trying to simulate 2D heat transfer problem. Here, I have a few questions for my CFX setup as follows:

1. I generated one layer mesh by using extruded method. I think the mesh is OK. But, I am not sure what I need to setup more for 2D in CFX. Otherwise, how can CFX know this problem is 2D category?

2. My profile data, myProfile.csv, is as ===================================== [Name] wire heat

[Spatial Fields] x [m], y [m]

[Data] x [m], y [m], heat source [W m^-3] 0.1, 0.1, 3 0.2, 0.2, 4 … … ===================================== Is it correct setup for 2D profile?

I highly appreciate if you can provide me any comments and tips.

Thanks, Se-Hee

Hi Se-Hee,

Your profile is fine. The solver doesn't actually "know" your problem is 2D, but if you specify the sides as symmetry planes, the solution itself will be two dimensional.

Make sure you use symmetry planes and don't specify the sides a "Free Slip" walls. The latter will make the flow parallel to the walls, but the solution will only be first order accurate.

If the model is axisymmetric and has a swirl component, use a periodic interface between the sides instead.

Hi Robin,

Thanks for your confirmation. I will check my setup.

Have a great day!

Many thanks, Se-Hee
