Can't open .res and .bak files

Hi,

I have following problem. I have a simulation with CFX 10 and I can't read the result file. The program always tells me that CFX-Post can only read: 1) CFX Results or Definition Files... and so on.

My file is a result file. I had the possibility to check it on another machine and there it works. I don't understand why it works sometimes and sometimes I get this error.

Thanks for help

Claudia

Dear Claudia,

Could you elaborate on which machine/OS works, and on which does not?

Bizarre,

In this cas it didn't work on a windows XP machine but on a linux (cluster). A few days ago I had a case which didn't work on a windows XP (Laptop) but on my "normal" XP machine.

Thanks!

Dear Claudia,

Could you tell how large is your file? 100MB, 1GB, 3GB??

I bet is very large..

In this case you are right. It is 2 GB, but in the other case it was only 200 MB. That can't be the only reason.

I think Opaque has the right idea. Your file is too large to be read using Win XP ( limit is 2GB , i think!)

Dear Claudia,

If you are talking about the same setup.. It seems that your 200 MB file is missing the mesh and a few other things.. Is it a minimal file, or forgot to set Include Mesh in the Output Control panel?

You are rigth, that the 2 GB file is too large. But in the case of the smaller file it can't be a missing mesh or something, because with a missing mesh I can't open it on any machine. But it was possible to open it on one machine (WinXP) and on one (WinXP) not. That is what I don't understand.

Thanks Claudia

Re: Can't open .res and .bak files

Dear Claudia,

Odd cases like that are better resolved through the help desk.. Give them the file in question, and note exactly what differences between the two machines are. Perhaps different hardware, NFS mounted/mapped disks, 64bit/32bit. any security service pack installed.

Ok, thanks. I thought it was a simple problem :(

actually also faced this problem and i do not know the solution to it. I started four different calculations with same mesh. and my machine gave the same error as you mentioned with one case. And it opened the others. All the cases were 2gb plus cases. Further for the case it was not opening the results, it was opening the intermediate trns files. and i think after restarting the calculation and stopping it again it opened the results for this case also.

So try restarting it and stopping it again. Might work.
