quistion about meshing

Hello, I want to make the meshing finer in some volume in the flow, not only along a line, but in a volume in the flow, to detect the shear layer better, can anyone tell me how to make the mesh finer in an interesting region?

What program do you use? ICEM ? CFX Mesh?

CFX mesh is the program, please inform me if in ICEM i can solve the problem, I would consider using it then.

Icem can easily do it. I've used "Create Mesh Density" in ICEM CFD for this example to enhance the details in the wake of the car.:

Using ICEM you can do what you are asking by defining a "mesh density" on a surface.

Thanx alot Michael and Fusion, I gotta try that.

ICEM its very "controlable". Its a difficult to learn "how" its works, but when you understand it, its very very good. Santiago.

Re: quistion about meshing

For CFX-Mesh, you can try imprinting a surface in the region you are trying to resolve on a boundary in Design Modeler and then setting the desired face spacing for that imprinted face in CFX-Mesh. This at least allows you to control spacing more precisely inside a given boundary, instead of setting one value for the entire boundary. See CFX-Mesh Tutorial 9 for imprinting a surface. It is probably not as good as a density box in ICEM-CFD since you have to worry about how the mesh is changing in a third direction off the boundary, but it is the best I have come up with if stuck with CFX-Mesh.

Re: quistion about meshing

I found out that it is possible to mesh a region with CFX mesh through the workbench. this can happen by creating a plane in the area we wanna mesh finely and extrude a geometry there as freez. transfer it to the meshing and there we can create the triangle control from controls on the extruded geometry in region of interest. then before starting the surface mesh we just have to supress this extrusion we did. and then surface and volume mesh the modell. this will result in meshing the region of interest finely.
