Domain and Grid for Free Surface Yachts

Hi All,

Anyone knows any recommended practical ratio for the domain size (height, long and wide) to the LOA of the hull yacht?. Which is domain shape recommendable? (Rectangular, Cilindrical or Spherical). Is there any relationship between quality of the mesh (number of elements or nodes)and LOA or LWL? Do I have to run an mesh independence study every time?

If so, can anyone tell me if someone has published about this parameters or it is just a general knowledge of the CFX and I shouldn't not invest more time looking for the influence of this values on the drag components.

Regards,

Carlos Andres.

Re: Domain and Grid for Free Surface Yachts

for a cylinder you need 5 to 6 times the diameter.

so here 5 to 6 x LOA could do.

but if you have a transmissive boundary computing eigenvalues and integral methods you need less.
