hexaedral mesh
Hi, everybody
Can CFX work with hexahedral mesh? I have been working with tetrahedral mesh and I have had very good results, but I want to try to improve the convergence. Perhaps with a hexahedral mesh the CFX-Solver works faster. Does anybody know witch mesh is better (tetrahedral or hexahedral)? |
Re: hexaedral mesh
Hi, yes CFX works well with Hexahedral mesh. In most cases structured hexa mesh gives much accurate results for the same number of nodes compared to tetra mesh. However, complexities in geometry might force you to use unstructured hexa or tetra. This is because a good quality structured mesh is very difficult to obtain for complex geometries. I have worked with ICEM to generate structured hexa. It involves more efforts during meshing than a tetra, but efforts usually pay off well in terms of faster and better convergence and accuracy. Hope that helps. Shastri

Thank you very mutch. I´m also usin ICEM. I`ll try what you have said.

Re: hexaedral mesh
... if you have got a hexa license....

Re: hexaedral mesh
I have got ANSYS ICEM CFD 10.0 Is that enough?

Re: hexaedral mesh
ICEM CFD can come in different ways - hexa, tetra/prism, quad and another features like cartesian mesh etc. Each such feature like tetra/prism or hexa includes mesh editor. For CFD is better to have tetra/prism and hexa features. (and also some geometry option) - consult your vendor or support engineer. In general your license must include hexa feature for hexaedral meshing. It looks like:
INCREMENT tetra ... INCREMENT prism ... INCREMENT hexa ... |
