2d axysymmetric inflation layer
 
I am trying to set up the mesh on a nozzle, using 2d axisymmetric flow. I set up my periodic pair, using 5 degress, and set the mesh to partial. I am trying to insert an inflation layer on the surface (the curved revolved surface for boundary layer). When I set an inflation layer, CFX will not produce either a preview, or a volume mesh only produces errors. Any suggestions thanks,

I am not familiar with icemcfd

I am using ansys CFX 10.0 did I understand that correctly?

In CFX-Mesh, if the sliver of a solid you create is too thin it will not make the inflated cells close to a body. Try making the solid volume a larger slice by using a few more degrees of the rotated axisymmetric body.

Try to make a coarse mesh (larger tets with few cells in the inflation layer) first. If that works than you might have to go to increase the settings for the inflation layer (increasing internal angles etc). It should work in CFX-mesh (we do it a lot). The coarse mesh should always work. I would recommend using ICEM for these geometries. It is more work but your mesh is better aligned with the flow. You can have elongated cells in axial direction, reducing the required number of cells significantly. A tet mesh will result in a mesh with a similar axial and radial resolution which is not really needed in your case (only near shocks).

The best way to create your mesh in CFX-Mesh is using "Extruded 2D Mesh". Check CFX-Mesh document about details about this meshing option. What you will do is to generate surface mesh on one of your periodic pair surfaces. Then use periodic pair surfaces to define "Extruded Periodic Pair".
