ICEM 10 mesh question
 
I build structed mesh in cubic domain using blocking. This domain is divided into few parts. When I change some edge size, all mesh in this domain is changed. This is because the number of nodes on this edge and on opposite edge must be same. So we have picture like this:

My aim is to get this kind of mesh structure:

So on the first side I want coarse mesh, on the second side I want two more times accurate mesh (on the second side each node is the beginning of mesh edge, on the first side every second node is the beginning of the mesh edge) How can I achieve this in ICEM 10 using blocking?

Delete the block on the second side.

Build a new block on the second side, but using points that do not coincide with the existing vertices of the block on the first side.

Then associate the vertices of the interface with points that coincide with the interface vertices of the first side.

You should build two separate meshes for each domain. I am not sure if you can connect them in ICEM. If not, then you can load both in Pre and connect them through a GGI.

Remember that CFX does not support hanging node mesh. You have to mesh them separately in link them together in Pre as Gert-Jan mentions.

You can do Block Refinements in a given direction. Select the block(s) you want, the direction, and what type of refinement: 1/2 to make coarser - 2 to make finer. When you write the file for Ansys CFX - it will be written correctly such that the interfaces between the elements are there and understood correctly.

Myron, have you done this? My understanding is exactly as Gert and Dr have said, CFX does not support hanging node meshes and the correct approach would be two meshes linked with a GGI in Pre.

I did this a couple years back - not recently. At that time, ICEM correctly wrote out the interfaces - one for each side of the block refinement. ICEM support would have the final say on this - but I know it worked at one time in V10.0.
