Hi, I want to simulate vortex induced vibration, airflow over a parabolic antenna. If anyone know how to do this or have a tutorial about it please help me. Thank you.

Hi,

CFX tutorial examples, flow over an Ahmed body. There are also plenty of bluff body flows available. Also look for Von Karman vortex street http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Von_K%C3%A1rm%C3%A1n_vortex_street

Hi Glenn,

Thank you for your quick answer. I want to simulate a fluid structure interaction. Because of the Von Karman vortex street the structure (parabolic antenna) begin to vibrate, I want this phenomena to simulate.

Thank you.

Dorin

Hi,

How about starting by modelling the vortex street behind a cylinder? If you choose the right Re range then the flow is laminar and 2D to make it easier to get it working before you add turbulence and 3D at higher Re. The shedding frequencies behind a cylinder is well known (Strouhal Number).

If you can correctly predict shedding behind a cylinder in an similar Re range to your antenna then you can be pretty confident your antenna simulation will be OK.

Hi Glenn,

Thank you for your response. I search in archives and I found that you have a response at the subject "Flow past a 2D-Cylinder?", in your response there is a link ,http://services.eng.uts.edu.au/~glennh/UTS.html, but I could not open, please help me. I understood that you have the command file and the geometry file for this problem, it will be very helpful for me if you send me this files, please.

Thank you very much.

Hi,

That web page is back from pre-history when I was a student and the web page has long since been removed from the university web site. The command file of the study you refer to was in CFX4 so will not work in CFX11, and I have not repeated the exercise in CFX11.

Best start from the beginning and do it in CFX11.

VIV is complex problem, you will do rigid body or flexible one ?

Is fluent a better solver for this FSI problem?

I will also do some viv simulation using commercial solver, maybe we can share some knoledge later ..

Hi,

I want to simulate both of the cases. I don't know if fluent has FSI module. If you know how to simulate VIV, please help me.

Thanks and have a nice day.

I am interested in VIV too. An example is given in http://www.fluent.com/software/fluen...nt63.htm#link2 for VIV by fluent. As to the deformation of structure,Fluent+Mpcci+Abaqus is a good choice.
