particle tracking

Hi, Does any one know about the particle tracking?

I just have a (*.res) file of a CFX run, it is steady state condition of a one fluid flow. Is it possible to do the particle tracking after you are done with the simulation? there is an option to import from a file, what would be the format of this file?

thanks.

Re: particle tracking

In Post you can calculate streamlines only. The read from file option is for legacy support of particle tracks written to a file from the solver.

If you particles have significant mass and you don't care about the effect on the fluid flow, you can set up on-eay particle tracks in Pre and use your existing results to restart. A single iteration will suffice after which you can shut down.

If you are interested in how the particles interact with the fluid you can set up two way particle interaction, but the solver will need to iterate longer to converge to the new flow solution.

All of this depends on you having a license for particle tracking, of course. You will have this if you have the full capability solver or have purchased the multiphase flow module.
