Anyone can help with hybrid mesh? I learned from tutorial, that I need to have an interface surface between 2 different mesh, how can I make such surface without obstructing my flow path.

Thanks

Hi,

Do you mean you need an interface surface between the prism layers and the tet mesh core? If this is what you mean you are wrong - you do not need an interface surface.

Hi Glenn

Hmm.. what I read from tutorial, it combines tetra mesh and blocking (hexa mesh) for 3D. And at that tutorial I clearly remember that there is a part called "interface" which I thought to be a surface. But I am not how to make the border between different parts with different mesh.

Thanks.. can you give me more explanation?

You have to create two meshes, a hexa and a tetra grid separately. When one of the meshes is loaded into icem, import and merge the other grid. The interface walls should now collide with each other and all you need is to tell ICEM is to merge the cells on that surface (one click of a button). Whatever you call the two surfaces doesn't really matter. You just need to give them a different part name from all the other surfaces. The tutorial uses "interface" for obvious reasons. -Dr. Flow Squad http://tinyurl.com/2gkjh8

Yes I know that I need to create the mesh separately, but how to create the interface in icem? Since in tutorial, all the parts including the interface already available in tin file.

Thanks in advance.

Just name the surface by right hand click over "parts" and choose "Create Part". Name the part something obvious and click on the surface. -Dr. Flow Squad http://tinyurl.com/2gkjh8

Your explanation is how to name a surface. My question is how to create a new surface, because when I imported my iges file into icem, there is no surface inside my flow path. My geometry is not 3d solid because later on I need it for cfd analysis. And it seems I need to divide my whole geometry into several section so it will be easier for me to choose which mesh that I should generate for each section.

No. You don't need to divide your geometry into several sections. What you need to do is to insert a surface at the location where you want to merge two meshes. For example, assume you have a 1m long pipe and want to create Hexa mesh in the first 0.5m section and Tetra mesh at rest of 0.5m section. Your original geometry model would be just a 1m long pipe, instead of two 0.5m long pipes. Once you bring geometry model into ICEM CFD, you can create a surface at middle of pipe.

Hi longbow,

Okay, suppose that I create that surface, would it be like blocking my volume? Or is it okay if you create a surface in the middle and then run it on fluent?

How to create a surface which is not in the middle? Is it possible?

Thanks!
