rules of thumb

Hi,

I've been having some difficulty lately getting decent meshes put together and since it's just me using CFX I really have no idea what industry standard practices there are. My geometries are water geometries and usually they are very very small (1/16 in holes with jets). I know some of the more formal aspects (y+, etc) but I was wondering if there were some rules of thumb folks used to keep meshing jobs from taking all week to figure. thanks!
