engine flow analysis to find torque
hello
i am trying to simulate the crankshaft of an internal compution engine to see the torgue how change if i change the lubricate, i mesh the lubricate and the crankshaft and also the engine block, i have 3 questions on it 1) shall i mesh also the air? 2) as i know we do not create an interface between lubricate and air. is that correct? 3)how can i create the axis of rotation of the crankshaft? 4) how can i create the rotation of the crankshaft ? thanks in advance |
Re: engine flow analysis to find torque
Hi,
What physics are you trying to model? The journal bearings? lubricant mist? Windage losses on the crankshaft? Rotation is easily modelled in CFX using a rotating frame of reference. Glenn Horrocks |
Re: engine flow analysis to find torque
Hi maurizio!!...It was an interesting simulation.I also want to do this analysis but not yet....you model the crankshaft and engine using CFD Workbench or you just import it from somewhere??can you share something??It was good and I want to know how you begin to simulate...

Re: engine flow analysis to find torque
well
i can send you some cad files and mesh if you wish, i want to analyze how the torque of an engine change due to the lubricate type, i design everything in solid works, i import it in the workbench and mesh it in cfx mesh (both air - lubricate - crankshaft and engine block) so what i want to do is to make a 1 sec simulation to see the rotation of the crankshaft and how the lubricate flow in the engine and how much is the pressure of the lubricate acting on the crankshaft as it rotates , i believe this is a problem that can solve with 2 cases 1) create a 2 way fsi to see the torque and the stress on the solid parts and the flow in cfx 2) create only a rotation of the crankshaft in the cfx without take any stresses , since we do not need the stress only the torgue i believe that the best option is to start the 2 option but i do not know if cfx can give us any torgue output, also for the 1 option of 2 way fsi i do not know how to put rotation on the crankshaft in ansys structural. please give me any advice maurizio ps shall i do that with moving mesh or rotation frames???? |
Re: engine flow analysis to find torque
hello Mr Glenn
i amg to find lubricant mist and alo journal bearing changes on several types of lubricant in a ICE. Can you please tell me any idea? thanks in advance |
Re: engine flow analysis to find torque
Hi,
If the motion is rotary then use rotating frames. If the motion is arbitrary use moving mesh. Glenn Horrocks |
Re: engine flow analysis to find torque
glenn
can i send you my cad files to see what i am trying to do? best regards |
Re: engine flow analysis to find torque
Hi,
Sorry, I don't have the time to help people out directly. Talk to your support office and they should be able to help you out. Glenn Horrocks |
Re: engine flow analysis to find torque
maurizio...can you just send the CAD file or share it. I try to study and analyze if I can becuase I'm gonna do this simulation also.....Thanx Maurizio.
