Can Mesh in initial guess be different that actual

Hi,

From document 'Initial Condition Modelling: Initialisation Parameters' (ANSYS CFX-Solver, Release 10.0 : Modelling page 95 ), it seems that mesh should be exactly same if initial condition is taken from some result file.

On the other hand, in Tutotrial 2 (Static Mixer with Refined mesh), we select the option 'Interpolate Initial Values onto Def File Mesh' while running the simulation in solver manager.' Meshes in initial solution result file and new simulation file are not same.

I am confused with above two stories.

Kindly suggest where I am misunderstanding...

Many thank in advance,

Regards, Kush.

You can do either.

If you simply pick a results file to initialize from, the solver will use the physics definition from your .def file and the mesh and results from your .res file.

If you do the same and turn on the "interpolate initial guess" option, the results in the .res file will be interpolated onto the mesh of the .def file.

If your mesh is different than the mesh in the results file, you must turn on the interpolate option or else you'll end up using the old mesh, rather than your new one.

The old interpolation routine was very slow, so you generally wanted to avoid interpolating where possible. It was re-written in version 11 and is extremely fast now, so I would recommend using the interpolation option virtual every time.

Thanks a lot !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It makes picture very clear. I am having CFX-11 as well. Thanks once again.

Cheers, Kush.
