Default Curvature Correction & Reattachment Mod.

Hello,

CFX 11.0 includes the SST Curvature Correction and SST Reattachment Modification as beta features. Can anyone give detailed information on what these options are and how they work ? Or alternatively does anyone know where I can learn more on this subject (published paper / book) ?

Also, how can I use these options in PRE ? Shouldn't they appear in the Expert Parameters section after I enable beta features ?

Thanks, your help is always appreciated !

Felix

Hi Felix,

as far as the SST Curvature Correction is concerned I can tell from my own experience that this beta feature is not really implemented yet. I had only a vanishing influence on my test case with the CFX SSTCC activated or deactivated.

In a first test I found that the SST curvature correction proposed by Hellsten (AIAA-98-2554) gave much better results. But it also lead to higher residuals.

When you find out anything else please let me know.

Take care, Andreas

Hi Jeromin,

with which code did you test the cc-model proposed by Hellsten? It wasn't CFX, right?

Are you using the CC-model in version 12.1, CFX? HAve you varied the CScale-coefficient. Would be interesting to know if that impacts your flow as well. It had quite a big influence on my results - but my experience is limited to version 12.0!!! I will analyze it now in 12.1.

Regards.

Curvature Correction would only make a difference for strongly swirling flows. In my experience SST + CC gave results similar to a Reynolds Stress model, but without the added expense and with the wall treatment benefits that come with SST. The option appears in Pre on the Domain > Fluid Models panel, under Advanced Control below where you pick your turbulence model (not sure if it's there in 11.0 though). I haven't used the reattachment modification before.
