Number of elements in a mesh insignificant?
Hi,
I think CFX creates a control volume for each node in the mesh and each CV has few integration points (I guess 3 ?) in it to perform the calculations. So does the number of elements in a mesh become insignificant? Thanks, Sam |

CFX does create a control volume for each node, but the number of integration points will depend on the number of elements connected to that node. For a node on a typical hex element, there are 24 integration points. For a node on a typical tet, there are about 60. The details are covered in the Theory documentation under Discretization.
The number of nodes determines the number of equations to solve, and hence the performance of the linear solver and the number of elements affect the equation assembly, so both will affect the memory usage and time per iteration. -CycLone |
