Particle tracking - Domain interface / FrozenRotor
 

Hi all, I am using CFX 11.0 to solve the particle in stirred vessel which consists of the two domains- 1.Rotating 2.Stationary. Frame change: Frozen-Rotor is set at the domain interface. I injected the particle in rotating domian, and set the Expert Parameter for 'pt in absolute frame' as 't' needed for RFR. Solved the particle for few seconds. I post processing of the particle trajectories I was surprised to see the discontinuity in the particle track. For example: the particle moved in the direction of impeller rotation in the rotating domain, But it came out from the other location at the domain interface. Thus I found a break in the continuity in the particle track. I am affraid this is not the limitation in the CFX 11.0. If anyone from you have come across this problem please write to me.

Hi,

Are you sure you need the expert parameter? In CFX-Post when you view the particle tracks you can use the velocities in the absolute frame to get the true tracks.

Thanks for your reply. Yes we need to check 'true' for the 'pt track in absolute frame' in expert parameter. If its kept 'f' (default), then u may see the continuity but the path followed by particle in the domain will be in the opposite direction than the flow in the stationary domain. The opposite direction of the particle motion in the rotating domain are exactly reverse in direction compared to the vectors of 'velocity in stn. frame'. Is there some problem in dealing with 'domain interface' in CFX 11.0 code.

Hi,

I don't think you need the expert parameter. When you view the tracks in CFX-Post use the "Velocities in Stationary Frame" and you will see the true particle tracks.

Hi Glenn, When u don't apply the Expert parameter for solving particle in absolute frame, the particle track is in exactly opposite direction with the flow. In the cfx-post u can just see the color of track in the "vel. stn. frame". Its really very major/surprising problem in CFX !
