Hi there,

I have used Reynolds average turbulence models till now. Now I need to use LES for my simulations. There seems to be so many things which I need to know in order to run a proper LES simulation. For example judging RMS values, mean values, when to stop the simulation, how to do time step averaging etc....I could not find this practical information in manual. I looked at most of the threads related to LES but could not locate a good reference material. May be I overlooked useful stuff.... Could some one brief me about LES or direct to reference material? I will be very thankful.

Kind regards, Sam

Hi,

While it is not a complete reference for LES, "Turbulence Modelling for CFD" by Wilcox has a very good discussion of most of the basic issues. A good place to start.

Hi

This book mainly deals with RANS modelling and has very little on LES. I am also looking for a good LES book but so far i have found none. I personally would recommend "An Introduction to CFD" by Henk Kaarle Versteeg. If you can get hold of its latest edition it has a good introductory chapter on LES from CFD point of view.

If you are looking for a more detailed reading, I can suggest the following book: "Large eddy simulation for incompressible flows" from Pierre Sagaut.

Hi Magnoli

Does it have a good introductory material on LES and how good is it from CFD point of view?

Hi Usman, This is a very complete book, it includes the basic concepts also. The only problem is that it can sometimes become a tyring reading.
