Coupled Heat Transfer Simulation

Is it possible to simulate a pin fin array problem with CFX (Fluid Domain-CFD Solution) and ANSYS (Solid Domain-Thermal Solution)? Could you give me hints about such simulation and what ANSYS software is required?

Hi,

As I understand you want to simulate convective and conduction heat transfer coupled. It is called conjugate heat transfer There is a tutorial available in CFX. Use help search to find

Yes, I have seen this example. But I would like to do also a thermal analysis on the solid domain which requires a FE analysis coupled with CFD analysis. The solid domain is a pin fin metal block which heated only at some locations so that I need to solve also heat conduction within the solid.

Ok But heat conjugate property automatically solves the conduction and convection. You have to just define your solid and fluid doamins and appropriate BC on the solid and fluid , It solves this coupled problem and automatically satisfies the interface for you --- Selim

CFX will do this. Just set up solid domains.
