Dear friends, Is there any code which can give practical results for a flow case of Mach number 30 or higher than that?? Assume that many are interested in such flows.

http://www.dolfyn.net/dolfyn/downloads_en.html

The Open Source CFD code dolfyn is accompanied by a preprocessor.

The preprocessor writes a geometry file in a format suitable for dolfyn. The input is a set of three files which describe the cells, vertices en the boundaries. Dolfyn reads the geometry file and a separate input file. In this input file the user sets numerical and model data, boundary conditions etc. The input file can be edited with any simple editor.

The packed sources for both codes (status sept. 2004, jan. 2005):

preprocessor.f90 dolfyn.f90 or combined (status dec. 2006):

preprocessor.f90 and dolfyn.f90 or the latest development version (status dec. 2007):

dolfyn_dec2007a.tgz The syntax of the input file is described in (status oct. 2007):

dinguide_okt2007.pdf The file is in Portable Document Format (pdf). You can save it and open it with Adobe's Acrobat Reader, or for example with Ghostview.

Both codes can be compiled with any modern Fortran95 compiler. Be aware that the current Fortran77 subroutines have to be compiled with the same compiler. The codes were successfully tested with a Digital/Compaq Fortran compiler under Alpha/Tru64, the Intel Fortran Compiler(s) (ifc and ifort), the Absoft compiler under Linux, and the Microsoft Fortran compiler under Windows. The G95 compiler has also been succesfuly used (under Linux and Cygwin/Windows).

Dolfyn writes out files for OpenDX , the former IBM postprocessor (the figures in the examples were made with OpenDX). This postprocessor is available for a variety of platforms (Unices, Linux, BSD, OS/X en Windows). And you will need a standard ascii editor like NEdit .

Test files for some examples are (status sept. 2004):

Demo (2D) (41kB) Small 2D example (45kB) Straight channel (61kB) Flow around a cylinder (482kB) A row of cylinders (359kB) A tube (3D) (79kB) Pipe (3D) (126kB) Backwards facing step (2D) (140kB) Finally a 'standard' OpenDX net (12kB) Warning! You need to know what to do. The codes and files are 'as is'. The software and files are there to give you an impression only without any guarantee whatsoever. Accompanying documentation is (still) unavailable.

Everything here is still under heavy development. Updates and changes are not ruled out; in matter of fact, expected.

Another software* for 2D problems:

http://www.sinmec.ufsc.br/cfd/doc/uk/index.html

*CFD SINFLOW

EDUCATIONAL LIBRARY AND SOFTWARES FOR HEAT TRANSFER AND FLUID DYNAMICS

For Windows version:

1) CFD-Studio 1.0

The CFD Studio is an application to solve 2D CFD problems. It contains a basic mesh generator, a numeric method that solves the conservation equations and it has also a data visualization. The software uses the finite volumes method in generic coordinates.

2) CSFL-lib 1.0

The CSFL-lib 1.0 is a class and object library in C++ multiplataform (UNIX - MS- Windows) for computational code development in the Fluid Dynamics and Heat Transfer area (CFD). It minimizes the development times by giving to the user basic computational tools of a numeric solution.

3)CFD-Mesh 1.0

This is software to build and edit two-dimensional mesh from complex geometries using friendly point to click approach. This software provides mesh generation by elliptic equations solution and construct complex meshes by grouping others geometries.

4) CFD-GridEditor 2.0

This is a software to edit two-dimensional simple mesh using friendly point to click approach, to be used in the CFD simulation problems. In this package, the meshes generated in the CFD Studio and in the CFD Mesh they can be edited and modified.

5) CFD-SciView 1.0

The CFD SciView is a software multiplatform (Windows and Unix) that makes possible the visualization of meshes, scalar and vector fields results, previously obtained by the user.

Hi,

At Mach 30 most gases are well and truly dissociated and exist as plasmas. CFX cannot model the physics of plasmas.

Really, is this beyond the rarefied regime? Sorry if so.
