50% CPU usage

Using Ansys 10 and CFX 10, i get a 50% cpu usage... Running an Intel T2250 @ 1.73 GHz Duel Core with 2.5gb of ram Windows XP Prof

Is it a setting thing or...?

Re: 50% CPU usage

When at the CFX-Solver, select Local Parallel instead of Serial for the Run Mode. Then select 2 partitions. This should utilize both cores.

Re: 50% CPU usage

PVV Local Parallel or MPICH Local Parallel for Windows

Thanks

Choose your flavor. I don't have extensive use with these. Maybe others will be able to chime in with their experience.

Re: 50% CPU usage

I am using intel core duo computer but i am working on academic license. Its not a license for parallel. Do you think i can still run my simulation on local parallel? If i can do i have to make a partition in mesh to run it on two processors separately.

By the way i tried to run it but it has given me an error. Is there a way out?

Re: 50% CPU usage

One more question. Is there a good web site or book to learn all about parallel processing. I dont know anything about parallel at the moment. Where do i start?

Re: 50% CPU usage

Hi,

If you don't have any parallel licenses then you can only run single threaded. That means you will get 50% CPU useage on a dual core machine, 25% on a quad core.

The best information about parallel in CFX is the documentation. For information about parallel in general do a search on Google - good keywords would be MPICH or METIS.

Does CFX 11 use the 4 cores on Intel platform within Windows XP 32 bits?

Re: 50% CPU usage

Hi,

If you use local parallel with 4 partitions it will. If you do a default serial run it will not.
