Default orthotropic thermal conductivity

Dear all, How can i define an orthotropic thermal conductivity in a cylindrical coord frame? Could you give me an example of CEL that indicates how to define the axis (sub-object of the CEL) I give you some details: i defined a solid domain by choosing the cylindrical coord frame (in the initial conditions tabs) i specified a new material ( this material is define in the cylindrical coord frame.

Does anyone have any idea how to define orthotropic thermal conductivity in CFX 12? I know it is a beta feature (ref. manual) but I am unsure how to define it. Sorry to bring up an old thread.

Hello!

Orthotropic conductivity was present in "CCL Objects" in CFX 11 Reference Guide, but I couldn't actually make it work with CFX 11 (unrecognized CCL). However, it did work with CFX 12.1 though no CCL was given in the CFX 12.1 Reference Guide (developers must have had reasons to hide it). Here is what Reference Guide 11.0 says (I hope it's legal to quote that):

Option = Orthotropic Cylindrical Components




Essential Sub-Objects




AXIS DEFINITION: Specifies if we are using a Coordinate Axis or Two points to define a local cylindrical axis. "Coordinate Axis" currently only supports the global x, y, or z axis.

Essential Parameters




Thermal Conductivity r Component: r component of orthotropic cylindrical thermal conductivity
Thermal Conductivity Theta Component: Theta component of orthotropic cylindrical thermal conductivity
Thermal Conductivity Axial Component: Axial component of orthotropic cylindrical thermal conductivity


Option = Orthotropic Cartesian Components




Essential Parameters




Thermal Conductivity X Component: x component of orthotropic Cartesian thermal conductivity
Thermal Conductivity Y Component: y component of orthotropic Cartesian thermal conductivity
Thermal Conductivity Z Component: z component of orthotropic Cartesian thermal conductivity

THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY:
Option = Orthotropic Cartesian Components
Thermal Conductivity X Component= # [W m^-1 K^-1]
Thermal Conductivity Y Component= # [W m^-1 K^-1]
Thermal Conductivity Z Component= # [W m^-1 K^-1]
END

for


THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY:
Option = Value
Thermal Conductivity = # [W m^-1 K^-1]
END

with no luck using the command editor in materials section. [edit] Beta options are on. [edit]

CFX threw an error. If you have any ideas what may be wrong with my CCL please chime in. My ANSYS support status is in limbo (boss hasn't renewed yet), so I can't contact them. If anybody else has implemented ortotropic thermal conductivity please feel free to respond. Thanks all!

I 've seen the error, too. Nevertheless, the solution was successful. I didn't check the results myself, but the guy who did said they were OK. I'm not sure if he can be trusted, he just asked me to run his .def in 12.1. Try running the solution. If it doesn't work I can try it on my machine.

check the rules file, if its there it will tell you the correct syntax

I got it to work. I was using WB 2.0 - ghast - and found you had to use a 'CFX - BETA' cell rather than just turning beta features on in a normal cell. It will still throw errors but in the project page you can right click on the cell and say suppress physics errors. After that you link it to a results cell and it appears to be solving fine now.

I would imagine this works just fine in CFX-standalone with beta features on.

No idea. V14 is the current version and beta features can get changed between releases, or moved to a supported feature. Have a look in the reference guide, and/or the RULES file to check.

May i ask, what did you mean by 'turning beta features on in a normal cell' please? what is difference between 'CFX-BETA' cell and normal cell, and how do i turn beta features on in a normal cell please?
