Hi everybody,

i want to know how i can simulate a compressor in ANSYS-CFX 11 by using the general simulation type (i mean not the turbomachinery one)..... what about the radial equilibruim at exit?

thanks,

Noureddine

Hi Noureddine!

See you want a general mode simulation then, import mesh for compressor, its casing and in/out domains, apply boundary conditions and this will do.

Means u have to hndle a 360 deg case with Volute mesh(separate one).

there is nothing extra special .

Pankaj.

Hi Pankaj,

first, thank you for your quick answer.

in my case i want to simulate one blade passage of an axial compressor.

I want to know if there is an exit boundary condition suitable for rotating machines like in conventional turbomachinery codes where we specify a static pressure in one radial position (hub or casing) and extrapolate it using a radial equilibrium condition.

Regards,

Noureddine

Hi!

What is the reason u want to specify pressure in radial condition? Actually i dont know abt other codes but in CFX it will be better if u prepare a model with In,out, periodic for one passage, use mfr approach to solve axial flow impeller.

Still if u know better ways, then dont divert your own path.

Regards, Pankaj.

Thanks again Pankaj,

for Ansys-CFX, it is not my choice to work with it, they imposed it to me for my PhD research.

In my master, i developped my own code for transonic compressors using a Time Marching Method (without turbulence... i failed to converge with the Baldwin-Lomax model...i did not have enough time), and in all documentations about the numerical simulation in turbomachinery, u can see that they all use the radial equilibrium for exit condition.

Best Regards,

Noureddine
