Water Waves in 2D
I have generated waves by perscribing velocities (u and v) on the inlet with initial conditions of zero velocities. it seems to work fine in 3D but when i try to run the same simulations on a 2D mesh it fails with an error (fatal overflow or sometimes not enough memory while there is enough memory) Any Suggestion please. Thanks

Hi,
I assume you have set up your 2D simulation as a mesh one element thick with symmetry planes on either sides. Sounds like a setup problem. Check things are oscillating in the correct directions. Glenn Horrocks |

hi . yes it is extruded 2D mesh with one element think and symmetry planes at fron and back. the simulation works if i make initial values(of velocity) same as the boundary values at inlet. but i want to run it for a zero initial velocity. and it works in 3D

it is CFX. 2D extruded mesh. also i have place a line control(followed by a point controle) to refine the mesh at free surface. i think it is the mesh but how can i controle it

hi Glenn.H. the 2D simulation works in the absense of line spacing( which i have used to refine the mesh at free surface) ... any further suggestion please...?

Hi,
Are you sure you are using symmetry planes for the top and bottom faces? Is the thickness of your extrusion approximately equal to the smallest element length? Glenn Horrocks |

front and back is symmetry planes. while top is open boundary and bottom is a wall . left is inlet and right is outlet/opening...
