Artificial Viscosity
 

i am studying waves propagation in CFX with specified velocity at the inlet. Now the rate of waves decay is quite large and one wave travels only couple of wavelength before it disappears. This is perhaps because of the upwind scheme which is causing artificial dissipation( artificial viscosity) . Can anyone suggest a remedy for this problem?

or suggest another available scheme? Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Yes, upwinding will tend to damp out waves. Use Hires or hydrid (with a blend factor>0.75) differencing. Also for transient simulations use second order differencing for the same reasons.
