.STL Geometry File
Hi . I need to get a .stl formate file for my geometry. Is it possible to export geometry file from CFX's DesignModeller as .stl format? or how can I convert a DesignModeller's geometry (.agdb or anyother ) into .stl file? any suggestion would be appreciated! MAB

Re: .STL Geometry File
hi thanks. so this way i can export geometry as stl file. but how can i import the geometry file of cfx into this package to convert it into stl. can i load parasolid file ?

Re: .STL Geometry File
You need to import first. Current import options are Nastran BDF, OBJ, mesh, dxf (3DFACE only). Once imported, you can export any object to STL TRI. includes auto bisect of quad surfaces.

Hi all,
I know this topic is a little old, but I have the same problem: I have a .agdb file (from Design Modeler) and need a STL file from this geometry. Did anybody do that? Does anybody know how can I get this? I try CAD Exchanger, but I had some topology problems. Thanks in advance. |
um... well, ICEM can write .stl files (file/export geometry), have you tried that?

Hi Lance,
Thanks for the reply. Yes, I have tried ICEM. But when I open the STL file that I just exported from ICEM, I note topology problems. My geometry has 2mm thickness, and when I open the STL file, this thickness disappear. Do you know the probably reason for that? |
Maybe the triangles in the triangulation are larger than 2mm? I guess that would remove your thickness.

Hello everybody,
I'm having the same problem and I was wondering if I could find an answer here. Design Modeller gives me a .agdb file and I want to convert it to a .stl file in order to be able to import it with Flux3D, but I don't have Icem, what can I do ? Thank you very much, Adrae |
Adrae,
I used Design Modeler to export the geometry as parasolid. Then I imported the parasolid in Cad Exchanger (http://cadexchanger.com/downloads.html, there is a free trial version) and then exported as STL. It worked! Best. |
Thank you for your quick reply :D
I will try the CAD Exchanger, hope it will work because it seems I have to submit a request in order to download it ... Anyway, thank you again |
