I seek your help in solving a flow problem. the description of the problem is:

A hollow cylindrical vessel, rotating at 5000 rpm having a small orifice on the outer wall. It is filled with a liquid. I want to simulate the flow and find out how much time it would take to empty the cylinder.

Please give your expert advice

Hi

Make a cylindrical domain with fluid as Air. Place your vessel in this domain (select the fluid as water). Assign your vessel as rotating wall.

Good luck

PS: You ll need to do a transient simulation.

My specific question:

In this problem, the inner boundary is moving towards the outer boundary with respect to time. Should we assign mesh motion? If so how it can be given? Should it be given as a CEL? Also the dimensions of the fluid domain are: Outer diameter: 36mm Inner diameter: 20mm Length: 15mm Orifice diameter : 0.5mm Number of orifices : 1

Can we model it as a quarter of the cylinder and apply symmetric boundary? Also tell me about the meshing process.
