natural convection square cavity

Hi !
I'am doing some simulation about natural convection in a square cavity by using cfx 10.0. Just for curiosity, i did a few of calculation using a 3d box with 10 elements in the direction of the thickness and with simmetric boundary conditions on each side in the direction of the thickess. The solution present also a non zero velocity in the direction of this thickness in some grid point. Why ?? |

Hi,
Are you saying there is velocity across a symmetry plane? Or are you saying the flow is not planar? Many convection driven flows break up into non-planar flows so this is to be expected. Glenn Horrocks |

Hi,
Well, as I say this is normal for convection driven flows. They only remain planar at very low Rayliegh numbers. Glenn Horrocks |
