Default Mesh Smoothing

Hi All,

I'm running a FSI bloodflow simulation using CFX/WORKBENCH. The solver is showing the following:

Domain Name: Default Domain

Minimum Orthogonality Angle [degrees] = 18.6 !

Maximum Aspect Ratio = 29.3 OK

Maximum Mesh Expansion Factor = 56.1 !

I think this means that I need to generate a better mesh? I tried doing so by varying body and face spacing in WORKBENCH, using CFX MESH method. Can anyone tell me what else I can do?

Hi,

Yes, the solver is trying to say your mesh may have problems due to quality. Whether it is actually a problem of not will depend on many things.

But if you can generate a higher quality mesh that will always help. Do the meshing tutorials, practice generating meshes and do a training course on mesh generation.

I think if the geometry which you have is a simple one then of course you can change the mesh settings but if not then all I suggest to you is to improve the minimum orthogonality angle like it should be more than 20 or so. Otherwise I think the mesh is not bad.

But always check the quality and other details in your Mesher software before you export your final mesh. To improve the ortho , you need to check the smoothing process , do not smooth all elements too much , aviod unwanted pyramids cells as well

best of luck
