No need. If you created the GTM in version 11 of the ANSYS Meshing app, just make sure you options are set to save the mesh to the cmdb file. From the Tools menu of the meshing app you can export a Fluent .msh file.

Note that FLUENT can also read CFX .def and .res files, but this requires you to have set the model up in CFX-Pre.

Thanks. I am new for Fluent, but I know CFX. For a rotor/stator case, in CFX I just make two meshes (rotor.gtm and stator.gtm), and then load them in CFX-pre and define the interface. Suppose I can export rotor.msh and stator.msh using CFX-mesh. How to do this in Fluent? It seems that you must combine them as one mesh file in Fluent. Thank you.

It should be under the tools menu in the Meshing tab (not CFX-Mesh). Are you using version 11?

Hi Sandy,

Under the meshing tab, the first item under the Tools menu is "Write FLUENT Input File...". The option may be grayed out if you don't have the mesh object selected (it is context sensitive). If you still don't see it, you are either not using version 11 or you don't have the meshing tab selected.

Once you have exported your meshes, you can merge them within FLUENT (without going to Gambit) under the Grid menu by choosing "Merge...". However, you cannot replicate the meshes within FLUENT as you can in CFX.

Yes, I saw the "Write FLUENT Input File...", but it is grayed out. Could you please tell me how to have the mesh object selected (it is context sensitive)? Thank you very much.

Tried many times, but could not make it work. In the Meshing Tab, I tried to click on the Project, model under Project, also mesh under the Model, basically everything. I also clicked on my object in the window, but only one surface is turned to green. The "write fluent input file" keeps grey all the time. Do I need a particular license for that?

Click on the object called "mesh". If you have it selected, the mesh should also be displayed in the viewer.

If the mesh is not displayed and you have "mesh" selected, you may have set your CFX-Mesh options not to write the mesh to the CMDB file. If that is the case, go to Tools>Options and under the CFX-Mesh options, opt to write the mesh to the CMDB file or both the CMDB file and a GTM file.

Hello CycLone,

Thank you very much. I finally got the mesh. But the .msh file is about 4 times as big as the .gtm file. For my case, the .gtm file is 10MB and the .msh is 40MB.

Indeed. The GTM file is a very efficient format.
