Default ICEM:copy-rotate -> single edges, uncovered faces?

Hi, I have difficulties with mesh rotation in ICEM. I have created half of my geometry an meshed it with hexa. When I copy-mirror the half mesh there is still a part(e.g. PART.1) left at the connection plane between the two half. "Check Mesh" shows no errors. But in CFX the connection plane appears as a wall. That's not very good. So I tried to delete the plane(PART.1) in ICEM. Now "Check Mesh" creates to mesh subsets: - "single edges" and - "uncovered faces" What I'm doing wrong?

Thanks for your help.

When you copy/mirror - by default you have two sets of nodes and two sets of surfaces at the joining boundary. When you delete the surface elements (PART.1) at the connection plane, that takes care of the surface elements - but now you have the two sets of nodes (disconnected) without bounding surface elements. Hence, the uncovered faces and single edges.

My usual process for such a case. Mirror/Copy the mesh. Display only the surface elements at the junction (PART.1) Edit Mesh > Merge Nodes > with Tolerance. Specify maybe 1/10 of the smallest distance between any two nodes on those surfaces. Select all of the visible surface element nodes. This will merge out the duplicate nodes and create one set of nodes at the junction.

Now you can delete the surface elements at the junction - and you should be good to go.

Hello myron. It worked! Thank you. I have made a small tutorial with every single step:

- Transform_mesh -> Select -> select_items_in_a_part(icon) -> all -> accept -> Number_of_copies=xx -> Angle=yy

- Select only Volumes in Display-Tree

- Merge_nodes -> Select the contact nodes between two half. - Apply the Tolerance mentioned above (1/10...) ->Ok

- Ckeck_Mesh -> Press Apply-> create subsets

- Display-Tree -> select Overlapping_elments only

- Delete Elements -> Press 'v'

- Ckeck_Mesh -> The Mesh Subsets should be empty now
