importing mesh from Gambit and other software to ansys workbench
hi:
I have some problems with structured mesh generating in ansys workbench and i want to import mesh from other softwares like Gambit for simulating in ansys workbench as it is possible to import mesh from gambit to cfx in the form of ".msh". Is it possible & how? thx |
Hi,
CFX-Pre can import Fluent cas and dat files and Gambit mesh files. Glenn Horrocks |
hi Glenn Horrocks:
i want to import mesh to ANSYS WORKBENCH for simulating solid models.(not to cfx-pre) |

Hi,
I don't know much about importing into WB, but it looks like in V12 you can import CFX mesh files. So you could import the Gambit mesh file into CFX-Pre, generate a CFX def file and that can be imported into WB. In general, the CFX mesh format is read by most of the ANSYS family. The Fluent mesh formats are read by only a few bits of the ANSYS family. So if you can convert your mesh to a CFX def file then you will be able to get it into pretty much anything from ANSYS. I suspect if you are looking to manually edit the mesh (is this what you are planning on doing?) then you will probably want to use ICEM to do this. Glenn Horrocks |

you can check that the"open" option in wb simulation or wb meshing doesnt contain any def or cfx file format. |
hi
plz see this http://www.cfd-online.com/Forums/cfx...tml#post363754 i have other mesh in cfx-pre, when inport mesh from gambit, my mesh lost! |
Create a stand alone 'Meshing" component system in WB. When you mesh in Gambit export the file of the filename.dat format. Import into Ansys WB "meshing the 'filename.dat' mesh. Also remember, you can not edit the mesh imported from other grid generation software.
I'm curious what kind of geometry is it? because Ansys Meshing can pretty well handle all solid bodies for nice mesh. Anysys Meshing is also integrated with Mechanical APDL in the form of 'commands' for expert settings. BTW why did you even mention CFX when you want to do structural analysis? You might find better help in the appropriate forums!! |

i open my design in cfx standard and import new mesh, but i lose my own meshes... |
I don't know about Gambit; but, see if you are able to export gambit mesh to Icem cfd, and then export it to cfx..in icem you have the option to export mesh for cfx. see the documentation or a tutorial, it's not hard

first you said you want to generate a mesh for struct analysis.... now you say you want to create a mesh for cfx... what exactly are you trying to do..and please post according to posting guidelines |
