help regarding cfx

hi, this is rohan student at northern illinois university,
i am a beginner with ansys CFX and right now i am using ansys cfx to analyse a wind turbine, please can some body help me in finding a tutorial for a wind turbine analysis or a wind turbine geometry file

Hi,
in cfx help you can find a centrifugal compressor simulation. It's not the same, but the domains, interfaces, setting RPMs, boundary conditons, post processing etc. is similar to what you want to do. The difference between this and your simulation is mostly physical: lower pressure ratios, higher speeds, minimal temperature change...so do this tutorial first, if there isn't better. I think, in your case you should set inlet or opening velocity b.c. to simulate the wind, and a rotating speed of the blades.

and watch this:

your simulation is like a propeller (in your case the wind rotates the propeller, but at me the engine does it), but the build-up of the simulation is similar.

Please report your results later if it's possible, it's very interesting for me!
Good luck,
Attesz

Hi, using this thread instead of a new one, because I have a similar question.

I am also doing a cfx (or trying to, Iam a newbe) simulation of a windturbine.

So far, I have created a assembly in Pro/e consisting of 3 blades and a hub ( eventually a tower connected) . I tried to import the geometry in 10 different format, until it worked with igs(?) format, to the design modeler.

Now, as I understand, I have to extrude a cirkel around the model I created, to have a mesh for wind simulation. So, I have to freeze my windturbine model, before I éxtrude.

When I have done this, the windturbine is not visible because of the cirkel extrude. Can I make it transparent somehow, so I can se the other model to when I mesh. I want to mesh the "cirkel" extrude, and blades seperatly.

Also, when I use CFX post, I assume I have to have a domain, made of my blade+ hub, to give i fix rotation to?

And, do a need to model a axle connected to the hub, because I want the torque calculated on the shaft, due to the wind load?

Maybe not straightforward question but i need some point directions.

Thank you in advance

Anyone? .

I am not sure what you are asking, but what you are talking about seems to be basic rotating frames of reference stuff. Have you done the tutorials which come with CFX? They are the first place to look for setting up new models.

I have done the relevant tutorials. But a was only wondering how to make the cylinder I extrude over the windturbine transparant, so I can se both the model and the flow domain.

And the way to go if I want the torque delivered to the shaft.

I think it would be better to create an enclosure (Tools > Enclosure). However, one could sketch a circle, extrude the circle, use Body Operation to cut out the solid.
