Assistance in Vacuum pump simulation
 
Hello all,

I'm using ANSYS CFX 12.1. I would like to address the challenge in vacuum pump performance especially vacuum generated. Client expects the vacuum pump to work consistently and should generate 680 mm Hg without fail. When tested in rig, certain vacuum pump models (rotary vane type) cannot meet required targets. Instead, it can generate up to 650mm Hg in the test rig. I would like to diagnose the problem using CFD analysis and find whether the flow factors if any (pressure drop/rise) are causing such mediocre performance. I'm sure that the vacuum pump can be simulated using dynamic mesh instead of MRF model as i need to capture the fluid inlet / outlet gap with vane closely. How can we model the vacuum pump when pump speed, oil flow rate, oil temperature and pressure data are known ? I would appreciate if any body could share their experiences in modeling vacuum pump.

Sounds like a workable simulation.

But what are you expecting CFD will tell you? Does not your result simply mean the vanes are not sealing tightly enough - I don't think you need CFD to tell you that..... Or is something more complex happening?

I am doing a project in Vacuum pump(Regenerative pump). I am having the dimension of the pump. I want to conduct CFD analysis to improve the performance. Please help in this regard

I am doing my thesis(ME/MTech). in Vacuum pump. I am having dimension of Regenerative pump. I want to conduct CFD analysis. Please help me in this regard.

If you want to learn CFD in general then talk to your university. If you have a specific question then ask it.

Sir, had you done any further work on dynamics mesh for vacuum pump? I am trying to apply dynamic mesh on rotary vane vacuum pump using ANSYS CFX 13. Can you help me out in this regard?
