Virtual Particles
 

Hello,

in a transient FSI-Siulation with free surface I want to visualize the changing flow over a weir. I´d like to show a few virtual particles swiming in the water in a impressive video. Is a full partickle tracking setup necessary? Or can I use my existing transient results without particle setup? Is POST possibly smart enough to calculate the tracks?
What is the easiest way?

Post cannot do transient particle tracking as post-processing. I think Fieldview and/or Ensight might be able to providing you have enough resolution in your output files. Post can do streamlines which are steady state massless particle tracks but I guess that is not what you want.

You should be able to do massless particles in the solver. Massless particles are much simpler than full particle tracking as they have no inertia or drag and do not couple back to the flow so are mathematically very simple. I can't remember how to set them up and don't know if they are compatible with your other options but you should at least look them up in the doco to see if it helps.
